INTEL BRIEFING // FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything capsuleers ask before they run their first name.

What is Overwatch?

Overwatch is a free pilot-intelligence platform for EVE Online. It ingests the public killfeed live and turns it into readable dossiers: any pilot's combat record, employment history, favored ships, hunting grounds, and activity patterns — plus corporation, alliance, and system intelligence. Search a name, get the picture before you undock.

Where does the data come from?

Two public sources: the zKillboard killfeed, which Overwatch ingests continuously within seconds of each kill, and CCP's official ESI API, which enriches identities, corporations, alliances, and ship data. Every killmail Overwatch knows about was already public — we correlate it into intelligence instead of leaving it as history.

How fresh is the intelligence?

The killfeed streams into the Overwatch engine in near real time — kills typically land in the database seconds after the explosion. Identity details refresh continuously from ESI, so dossiers reflect current corporation and alliance membership, not last month's.

Is Overwatch really free?

Yes. Browsing pilot dossiers requires no account at all, and a free account unlocks the full intelligence: complete killfeed history, employment records, hull profiles, and hunting grounds. There is no credit card, no trial timer, and the individual tier stays free permanently. Optional paid tiers may come later for fleet- and corp-scale tooling.

Why do I need an account for the full dossier?

Deep intelligence is expensive to compute, and accounts let us serve it to real capsuleers instead of scrapers. Authenticating your EVE characters via CCP's official single sign-on also unlocks personal features — intel tailored to where you fly, and pairing with the upcoming Sentinel desktop companion. Scopes are read-only and revocable anytime from your EVE account.

Is this allowed under CCP's third-party developer policy?

Overwatch is built to operate within CCP's third-party policy. It reads public killmail data and official ESI endpoints, never touches or automates the game client, and never plays the game for you. The upcoming Sentinel companion reads only the chat log files EVE already writes to your own computer — a long-established, policy-compliant technique used by intel tools for years.

How does threat assessment work?

Overwatch analyzes a pilot's full combat record for patterns: solo versus fleet ratios, recent activity tempo, favored hull classes, the systems they hunt in, and the hours they fly. Rather than a single opaque number, dossiers show you the evidence — so a scout, FC, or hauler can judge the threat the way an intel officer would, in seconds.

What is Sentinel?

Sentinel is a lightweight desktop companion, currently in design. It watches your local chat log and nearby killfeed activity in real time, cross-references every pilot entering local against Overwatch's intelligence, and notifies you when a high-risk pilot arrives or a kill spike erupts in neighboring systems — before you'd ever have spotted it alt-tabbed. It sends no input to the game and requires no client modification.

Can I get my character's data removed?

Killmail records are public EVE data published by CCP and zKillboard, so they exist independently of Overwatch. Your account data — email, linked characters, settings — belongs to you: delete your account and it goes with you. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Who builds Overwatch?

Overwatch is built by Vektus, an AI data-analysis company whose team has flown in New Eden for years. We build prediction and pattern-recognition systems professionally; Overwatch is what happened when we pointed that machinery at the richest public combat dataset in gaming.
